Robert H. Siegel is an associate in the Family Law Department. He clerked for the California Department of Corporations, Enforcement Division, in San Diego, and clerked in the general litigation department at Shustak, Reynolds & Partners, P.C. while in law school.
Following law school, Mr. Siegel served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ann R. Bartlett, Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Family Division, Hunterdon County. During his clerkship, Mr. Siegel handled a variety of matrimonial dissolution matters, and served as a mediator for special civil and landlord-tenant matters in Hunterdon County. Mr. Siegel’s mediation work was recognized for the highest settlement rate among law clerks in the vicinage.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Siegel was an associate at Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP in its Family Law and Insurance Departments, and had been an associate with a boutique Family Law firm in Morris County.
Representative matters include:
- Won sole legal custody for paternal grandparents of minor child after a two-day trial by proving “exceptional circumstances” pursuant to the New Jersey Supreme Court’s decisions in Watkins v. Nelson, 163 N.J. 235 (2000) and V.C. v. M.J.B., 163 N.J. 200 (2000). Able to prove psychological parenthood on the part of the grandparents, leading to the rare result of sole legal custody.
- Obtained favorable ruling after five-day trial allowing minor child to be enrolled at private high school in Monmouth County over objections of child’s mother. Able to prove factors set forth by the Appellate Division in Levine v. Levine, 322 N.J. Super. 558 (App. Div. 1999) weighed in favor of child’s attendance at private school.
- Has argued multiple cases before the New Jersey Appellate Division, including divorce-related matters and various post-judgment issues.
While attending Brandeis University, Mr. Siegel was a member of the NCAA Tennis Team, and earned Dean’s List status for four semesters.
Mr. Siegel is a member of the Inns of Court, and the New Jersey California, and District of Columbia Bar Associations, and volunteers with Jersey Battered Women’s Services (JBWS).
