Roy W. Hibberd is counsel to the firm and a member of the Corporate, Finance & Banking Practice, the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice, its Franchising Practice, and the Cannabis Law Practice. His areas of focus include: company formation and startup support; financial offerings for startup and mature businesses; acquisitions, rollups, asset sales and mergers; regulatory and compliance advice and support on the local, state and national levels; licensing, franchising and other commercial contracts; and brand management including intellectual property protection and trademarks.
Having served as a chief legal officer of several major companies such as Coldwell Banker and DFC Global, and led company divisions, as a senior business executive, for such companies as American Express, clients rely on his ability to balance legal needs with business goals. His industry experience includes banking, consumer products, real estate, and professional services operating in traditional, franchising and e-commerce environments.
Immediately prior to joining the Firm, he was General Counsel to Stroll, a next-generation marketing analytics and advanced internet marketing platform. With product revenues in excess of $100M, for over 5 years Stroll was recognized by Internet Retailer magazine as one of the 350 largest internet retailers in America. Prior to Stroll, Hibberd was Senior Vice President & General Counsel of a public, leading, international diversified financial services company, DFC Global. Through nearly 1,400 retail offices and over two dozen Internet websites, DFC earned revenues in excess of $1B (USD) providing a variety of consumer financial products and services in ten countries across North America and Europe — Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Romania and the Republic of Ireland.
Hibberd has also served in a number of senior leadership positions which include leading a financial services division as Vice President, Americas for the American Express Company and Managing Director (US) for a public, UK based, intellectual property protection company. In the latter position, he and his team advised more than half of the Fortune 500 on intellectual property and brand protection.
Previously, Hibberd was a member of the Board of Trustees of Trinity University School of Law where he also taught, as an Adjunct Professor, corporate and tax law. He also was a longtime member and served on the board of the Greater Philadelphia chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association; he was Chairman of the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executives Group and he also served on the Board of the Financial Service Centers of America.
