Stefan J. Erwin

Stefan Erwin is an associate with the firm. His practice is focused on complex civil litigation, criminal law, labor and employment, cannabis law, and civil rights work and he brings nearly of decade of trial experience to his cases.

Mr. Erwin graduated from Rutgers University with dual degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice. Immediately thereafter, he went to Rutgers School of Law. In law school, he interned for the Honorable Noel Hillman of Camden’s Federal District Court and was awarded a Marshall Brennan Fellowship in Constitutional Law.

During that time he also taught a course in constitutional law for Camden high school students, founded a local community garden and helped organize a charter school. This initiative was recognized by National Jurist Magazine in 2011. Before graduating from law school, he accepted a clerkship with the Honorable James Hely of the Law Division in Union County. While working as a clerk, he also acted as a court appointed mediator.

After his clerkship, Mr. Erwin was appointed to the Special Hearings Unit of the Public Defender’s Office where he engaged in the vertical representation of individuals in a post-conviction setting and public policy litigation. He was then appointed to the Monmouth County Trial Region where he represented indigent individuals charged with felonies. Stefan left the public sector for an established Newark practice, where he represented the largest cities in New Jersey.

Mr. Erwin volunteers his time with the District IX Fee Arbitration Committee where he arbitrates fee disputes between lawyers and their clients. He also serves as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Model Criminal Jury Instructions and is an active member of the bar as part of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, and Union County Bar Association.

Mr. Erwin continues to volunteer in the community, serving on the Union Township Board of Health and volunteering as a county election lawyer.
